Far from the hustle and bustle of big cities, behind the mountains, live a group of people with a unique lifestyle and culture that would be interesting for many travelers. An adventurous trip to the nomadic areas of southwestern and western Iran will provide an incredibly immersive experience with the authentic nomads of Bakhtiari, migrating from Lorestan to Khuzestan twice a year, looking for fresh pasture for their flocks. This journey will not only give you the opportunity to have a close interaction with warm and truehearted nomadic tribes of Bakhtiari on the ranges of Zagros mountains, but it also gives you the pleasure of watching the process of production of organic dairy like cheese, yogurt, butter, etc. As you trek the mountains, take advantage of the picturesque landscape surrounding you from that altitude. By the way, the start and end point of this planned itinerary is Tehran, and it will also cover the historical and natural attractions of Khorram Abad in Lorestan Province, Izeh in Khuzestan Province, Borujen in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, and Isfahan. The journey will last 12 days, and it will be applicable in spring and autumn.

Itinerary

Day 1, Arrival at Tehran/ Tehran City Tour

Arrive in Tehran. Transfer to the hotel. After a few hours of rest, you will go to visit the Carpet Museum of Iran, where you can learn about the history of the Persian Carpet. Then, you are going to see Saad Abad Palace, built during the 19th century. After that, you will have a walking tour of Tajrish Bazaar, a traditional place with an old texture, giving you the spirit of old Tehran.

Tabiat (Nature) Bridge will be the last place to visit for today's city tour.

Overnight in Tehran.

After having breakfast, head toward Khorram Abad, the Capital of Lorestan Province, located at the heart of the Zagros Mountains. You must pass Qom, Arak, and Borujerd to reach this city.

Arrive in Khorram Abad, and visit Lake Keeyow, the only natural lake in Iran, where you can observe different bird species. Then we will drive to the roof of Khorram Abad to see the most equipped observatory in Iran and the Middle East. (Please, notice that you have only one hour to see Saturn and Jupiter.)

Overnight in Khorram Abad

Today your city tour begins with visiting the Brick Minaret from the Sasanid Era in Shaghayegh Square. Then you will go to visit the Inscription in Kufic and Farsi Script, the well-known Falak ol-Aflak Castle (Shapurkhast Fortress,) the Museum of Anthropology, the Twelve Towers Market (Davazdah Borji Bazaar), Makhmal Mountain on Aleshtar Path, and eventually, the friendly Nomads of Lorestan. As you approach their black tents, you can recognize men wearing black and white clothes known as Chogha and women with colorful long dresses.

In the evening, you will explore Shamshirabad Rock Park to see the great statue of Ario Barzan, one of the reverent Persian generals.

Overnight in Khorram Abad

On the last day of your stay in Khorram Abad, after having breakfast, you will have an excursion to Bisheh International Waterfall, 60 km from Khorram Abad. Then you will visit Haft Cheshmeh, Lorestan Nomad Camp beside the Ceasar River, the magnificent Mamil Village, and Bisheh Railway. After having lunch at an enchanting villa with a mesmerizing view of the waterfall, you will get back to Khorram Abad.

Overnight in Khorram Abad.

Depart for Izeh in Khuzestan Province. You will pass through Andimeshk, Dezful, Shushtar, and Masjed Soleyman. In Shushtar, you can visit the amazing Shushtar Hydraulic System. Continue your way toward Izeh. Arrive in Izeh.

Overnight you will be accommodated in a traditional house in Izeh.

Today your tour begins with visiting the Eshkaft Salman archeological site, where the statue of the Parthian man was found and is now kept in the Iran National Museum. You can also visit the enormous image of Ayapir. After having lunch, you will go to see the nomad tents. If willing, you can stay for a few hours and enjoy watching the nomads, milking goats, making butter out of animal fat, baking bread, and weaving nomadic rugs.

You can also take a look at Taraz Valley, the main route through which the Bakhtiari tribes usually migrate.

Overnight in Izeh.

On this city tour, you will visit the historical Shahsavar Cemetery, the thousand-year-old stone lions on the graves of Bakhtiari warriors. Your next stop is the archaeological site of Kul Farah, where you can see inscriptions of Kul Farah. Due to the historical significance of Izeh, this city is considered a roofless museum.

Overnight in Izeh.

Drive toward Isfahan. On your way, you will go to Dehdez to visit the enormous Karun 3 and Karun 4 dams and also the longest and largest tunnel. There, you will have a short stop to capture the grandeur of its structure. Afterward, you will head toward Borujen, a Chahar Mahal Bakhtiari Province city. In Borujen, you will have time to buy souvenirs. Borujen is about 3000 meters above the sea, which causes cold weather even in the summertime.

Continue your way toward Isfahan. You will arrive in Isfahan in the evening.

Overnight in Isfahan.

Today on the first day of your stay in Isfahan, you will see Isfahan Jameh Mosque, a UNESCO World Heritage site believed to be one of the most outstanding examples of Islamic architecture in Iran.

Naghsh- e Jahan Square, a complex including Aliqapu Palace, Sheikh Lotfolah Mosque, and Qeysarieh Bazaar, will be your next stop.

Overnight in Isfahan

The last day of your visit in Isfahan will start by going to New Julfa Strict to see Vank Cathedral. Then, you will be taken to Chaharbagh St to enjoy the beautiful view of the historical Sio-Se Pol and Khaju Bridges at night, giving a well-favored luster to the appearance of the Zayandehrud river with their play of lights.

Overnight in Isfahan.

Leave for Tehran. On your way, visit Abyaneh Village in Kashan. Continue your way toward Tehran. Arrive in Tehran.
